Laminate wood flooring: Ease and durability

If you want the look of natural wood in your home, but with more durability than wood flooring offers, then laminate wood flooring might be just the thing for you. Not only is it more durable than natural wood flooring, but it is easier to install than a lot of other floors.

Wood laminate has three basic layers: a surface layer with printed natural wood designs, a core, and a backing. It can be installed over most any type of subflooring and is what is known as a “floating floor.” This means that the individual boards are glued together, but they are not glued to the subfloor.

If you have a busy house, this might be perfect for you, since laminate’s aluminum oxide surface layer is extremely durable. Also, natural woods do not like moisture, and spills on them can cause long-term damage, as opposed to laminate, which doesn’t absorb liquids like natural woods.
