Hard Wood Floors: The Pros and Cons
So you want to make a major improvement to your home – install new flooring, but with so many options out there, which one will you decide on for this big improvement? Well if you’re thinking of adding hard wood floors, here are some pros and cons to consider:
Pros
Hard wood is usually considered the finest of wood floors, and because of this, can raise the value of your home.
It can be scratched and scuffed, but these scratches can be fairly easy to repair with some light sanding, in fact, if you foresee scratches due to pets, etc., it may be easier than laminates which can get chipped and scratched and cannot be sanded.
They can be easier to clean then some other floors, they usually just need regular sweeping and need to be cleaned occasionally with professional wood cleaners.
Cons
Hard wood is usually more expensive than other woods.
Wood floors can fade in sunlight or other elements, though they can be restored to their original color.
Wood floors should not be placed in the kitchen or bathroom, or any place where they could be exposed to excessive water, because water can be wood’s worst enemy.
Ultimately, it depends on you and your home, and for some, it’s simply a matter of the beauty of natural wood.
