Ecological benefits of hard wood flooring
Hard wood flooring is considered the finest of wood floors, and is loved for its natural beauty and ease of cleaning, but let’s not forgot the many ecological benefits of hard wood and natural wood flooring in general, including being a natural resource and being healthier than carpet.
Natural woods are renewable, recyclable, and reusable. "Reusable?" you might ask – that’s right! Reusing wood flooring is not only an environmentally friendly choice, but a great way to add a piece of history to your home. Often, you can get wide plank flooring from old historic buildings and have them installed in your home. These floors retain the unique marks of time and weather, marks that simply cannot be replicated.
Another benefit is that wood floors do not retain allergens that carpeting and rugs do. Carpeting holds dust, dander, and dirt that usually cannot be vacuumed up. If you’ve ever seen someone remove old carpeting, and seen the layer of dirt below it, then you know what I’m talking about. The way the carpeting holds these allergens in makes it one of the unhealthiest flooring choices out there.
So when you add the beauty of wood to your home, you’re also helping out the environment, as well as your family’s health.
