Engineered Wood Flooring: Contemporary and Durable Flooring Styles

Engineered hardwood flooring is the style of contemporary flooring that combines hardwood with plywood and hardwood veneer on the top. Depending on the nature, engineered woods might have 3-7 layers that have solid hardwood at its core or base. These layers are glued together to produce the finest quality of engineered wood flooring. It is a natural combination to create an effective manmade style. Therefore, it is referred to as engineered wood.

Engineered wood is produced to retain the natural hardwood resilience and to make floors further firm and heavy-duty by combining with HDF and hardwood veneers. Engineered wood flooring by its inherent character is moisture and heat resistant. It is a better alternative than hardwood floors in the way that it overcomes the disadvantages of solid hardwood floors.

Engineered hardwood floors are different from laminate floors as laminate Floors are composed of only HDF. The top layer of a laminate floor is a photographic layer. This layer is designed to replicate wooden, tile or vinyl floors. These floors are never glued or nailed but installed in a floating state. This makes it easier to remove it, as and when required. These floors are much cheaper than engineered hardwood floors.

Any hardwood floor requires proper sanding and finishing before it is installed. Engineered floors are installed by gluing, grooving, and nailing. If you are installing solid hardwood floors then these are subjected to damage in areas with excessive heat and moisture. Engineered woods flooring is resistant to such factors. Since it has multiple planks, twisting due to heat is neutralized.

Engineered Floors can be easily installed on existing floors that radiates heat like concrete floors. The moisture resistant property also makes it fit for installing the same in places where other floors are susceptible to damage due to moisture and vapor. The topmost veneered sheet helps to retain the décor of solid hardwood and looks great.

It is difficult to refinish hardwood floors. Engineered floors depending upon the thickness of the veneered sheet can be refinished carefully. Sanding could be applied professionally to get a better refinish.
