The many benefits of cork floors

This originally started out to be a piece on the pros and cons of cork floors, but as I delved further into the subject, I realized that there are far more advantages to having cork flooring than disadvantages. The only ones perhaps lying in personal tastes as far ass look and feel of flooring go.

Beauty

Cork has a naturally beautiful look and feel, and also comes in a wide variety of patterns and colors – making it easy to find some to fit with most any décor.

Price Tag

Cork is often much less expensive than many other hard floors including some tile and wood floors.

Water Resistant

Cork has a tremendous advantage over other woods – its water resistance. Most wood floors can be warped and ruined over time from water damage. It’s advised that you do not mop a wood floor and try to avoid spills. Cork, however, can take it, as it resists liquids very well.

Bug Resistant

Along with keeping water out, it keeps bugs out as well, including tiny microbial bugs or germs.

Insulating

Cork can actually help save energy costs. When it’s cold, cork flooring on the ground floor can help keep the cold out, and unlike other hard floors, your feet won’t land upon as cold of a floor as they might have!

Healthier

Cork, and wood for that matter, does not hold dust, dander, and other allergens like carpet does, it is a hypoallergenic floor. And as previously mentioned, it does not hold germs in either.

Acoustic

If the sound of traffic on a hard floor bothers you, you don’t have to worry about that with cork. Its bouncy soft nature keeps the sound down.

As you can see, the reasons to consider adding cork to your home are many, which make it one everyone might want to consider!
