Cedar Floors: The Essence of Mountain

Driving up a mountain road, you'll often get the feeling that you could tell where you were with your eyes closed. That's a figure of speech, of course; never try to drive with your eyes closed. The point is, the aroma of the mountains is distinctive, and one major contributor is the aromatic conifers – cedar being principal among them. Cedar floors can bring this aroma and this freshness to the privacy of your bedroom.

Cedar floors can be costly, though. They can go up to as much as $60 per square yard installed, which is more than double of what high quality carpet or vinyl could cost. But then carpet or vinyl have neither the class nor the heavenly aroma that good cedar floors exude.

Cedar floors are more commonly used for chests and cabinets than for rooms, which is perhaps due to their high price. Another prized quality is its resistance against certain pests. Moths can't be like humans in their preference of smells, for they seem to hate cedar. Which makes cedar floors a perfect choice for classy cabinets and wardrobes. Clothes kept in cabinets with cedar floors will usually not need further insect repellants for preservation.

But if you can think of your rooms as huge chests or cabinets, you'll probably come around to the viewpoint that cedar floors for them really makes a lot of sense. Preservation isn't the angle here – aesthetic excellence is. The rich patina of mature cedar floors is the color of the setting sun as seen through a glass of the finest red wine. The grain and the texture speak of warmth and comfort. And all the while, the gentle redolence of cedar floors keeps you rooms clear of bugs and critters!

If you worry about the harmful effects of increased wood consumption on the environment, don't let that keep you from enjoying the rich sylvan appeal of cedar floors. You can choose to assemble cedar floors out of recycled cedar, too, which is not too difficult to find. Cedar floors don't diminish easily in quality, and recycled cedar will have that much extra maturity to enrich the patina by a few more degrees while preserving the aroma and the classy look.
