Reclaimed wood floors can bring past lives to your home, for an entirely new life
With today’s lumber prices going through the roof, and conservation of the world’s forests weighing heavy on everyone’s mind, reclaimed wood floors are a financial, and environmentally conscious decision. Reclaimed flooring is also becoming more available, for these same reasons. More and more places are offering reclaimed flooring, so there are more choices than ever before.
Imagine having a floor of historical significance in your own home. Everyday, a structure is being torn down with a perfectly good wood floor in it. Older floors are actually better, and more sturdy, because the wood of today is not actually ½ inch thick as it says it is, but in the old days the wood was truly ½ inch thick.
You can also purchase wood flooring reclaimed from a place of personal sentimental attachment. You could have a piece of the basketball court, where you and your father shared your first, or last basketball game together; Or you could own a piece of a historical landmarks dance floor, where old swing bands used to play before they were famous. You just have to be on the lookout for these places being renovated or demolished, and be willing to find out what is happening to the old floor.
